Grace, beauty, and bold colors floating through the air is always amazing to see when birds take flight. And cardinals are available for year-round sightings for those lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. As an artist, I believe this is my connection with this beautiful wildlife when drawing. For many there is so much symbolism and emotional connection to cardinals, and it is so joyful to celebrate these winged beauties. I’m surrounded by cardinals each morning in my breakfast nook—so fun, so beautiful!
What amazes me about miniature art is its long tradition of honoring intimacy and detail. Miniatures invite the viewer to lean in close, to discover a world that reveals itself slowly. The discipline demands precision, patience, and an unwavering eye for the tiniest of details-qualities that continually challenge and inspire me.
What amuses me, and fuels my creativity, is the natural world, especially the beauty and colors of birds. Each feather, each flicker of movement, becomes an opportunity to celebrate life in motion. In my process, I seek to capture these spirits in flight or at rest, using careful observation to breathe energy into the smallest of compositions.
What moves me most about this art form is its ability to hold both fragility and strength in balance. Miniature painting is a practice of reverence-for tradition, for craftsmanship, and for the fleeting wonders of the natural world. It allows me to slow down, to honor each mark and color choice, and to share with others the quiet joy that can be found in life's most delicate details.
I feel a special bond to your pets too! As an artist, I enjoy honoring and capturing the beautiful faces and personalities—bringing each one to life on my drawing table. The unconditional love between humans and pets is a special bond like no other. I, too, am connected to their eyes, shapes, colors, and unique personality. There will be a good morning and a good night at my drawing board as a pet comes to life.
Capturing the story and personality that goes with a face in portraiture intrigues me! And there is always a story—whether known or imagined! As an artist connecting the shapes and colors, using lights and darks to suggest form, and studying facial expressions and body language is fascinating and gratifying. Portraiture is a stimulating artistic challenge and creating art that honors a person is also an honor for me to create.
